Where to begin? Usually the beginning is the best place, so let’s start there. I love to make Christmas gifts for my family. The store bought version doesn’t hold the sentimental value that I seek. So after making quilts, blankets, shadow boxes and various other items, I came across tile coasters. I sorted through all my favorite pictures of my children and grandchildren, plus engagement pictures of my niece and created my version of coasters.
They were a big hit.
Then Mary Ellen Ondo, a co-crafter from the James Island Crafters Guild, saw my coasters and wanted to have them featured at the Charleston Symphony Boutique.
Again, a big hit.
Encourage and realizing that the boutique was only open for a month, we needed another venue to market these little treasures, so off we went to local businesses. And guess what? Yep!
You guessed it, A Big Hit!
Being the picky artistic individual that I am, I didn’t want the typical marble tiles or colored photos. The tile needed to be porous so the photo would infuse into the stone. That’s when I found the Tumbled Travertine Tiles. Using only black and white images, this allowed the texture and color of the stone to show through giving an antique impression. Still wanting to make the tiles even more unique, I decided to add variety to the black and white photos so "Dab of Color" was incorporated to the design, still allowing the vintage look. Now customers have a choice of either black & white or Dab of Color.

Now this is truly a design I can put my stamp of approval on.....Nope not yet.
Living in a high humidity environment means things become sticky if not cured well. So off to find a combination that will accommodate the tropical climate. So after much research and umpteen errors, a solution was discovered. A process is now used to make sure that the tiles will not endure the side effects of low country climate, while still protecting the image.
Even the trivets are designed to be beautiful as well as practical, withstanding up to 500 degrees of heat.
The images of the tiles are inspired by local surroundings. Being blessed to live in the historical area of Charleston South Carolina, there is never a shortage of inspiration. Taking photos of the favorite attractions that Charleston is known for, has created beautiful gifts not only for tourists, but for residents as well.
Although the creative juices do not just stop there.
Personalized tiles have also become quite popular. From weddings and engagements, to family events and pets. The list is almost endless of what photos can be placed on our tiles. Imagine the conversations around the coffee table with your personalized set.
Now let’s think outside the box for a moment. Tiled Impressions does
not curb creativity to only coasters, trivets, magnets and ornaments.
Why not display a favorite design or photo on a tile for the kitchen back-splash, bathroom or even around the fireplace. Creativity is what we crave and enjoy the opportunity to push the limits.
Most importantly customer satisfaction is priority one with our company.
